Well, I've given up on the crew here in Scotland. After promising to get back to me with alternative trailering plans, they didn't. Unfortunately, although they seem to do a good job, judging by their previous work, I hate companies and tradespeople that can't be arsed, or can't remember, to call their customers. They've lost this one.
I'm pestering companies in England now.. hopefully they'll be more reliable.

Plumbers, builders, now car restorers. I called 8 builders to quote for a serious amount of work on our house, and one, count 'em, one bothered to show up. Then left such a ridiculous quote it was clear he didn't want to take it on.
I'm not inclined to give people or companies like this a second chance..if they can't be arsed with picking up the phone, I wonder how well they'll do everything else.
Shame.. since they sent their truck around initially I thought it was just a mis-communication.
Ah well.

I feel the same way. We work hard for our money, so why chuck it at someone who obviously doesn't care for our business--move on and try the next person.
Unfortunately, not enough consumers have this attitude, and just take it lying down--that's how these half-arsed business people get away with it.
I feel that if you don't have the pride or courage to at least try to do the job right, don't do it at all--leave it to someone who can, and go sit on your arse in front of the tele with a packet of crisps for company.
But...that's just me.

Well - four more companies emailed and phoned and not a single reply. They couldn't even be bothered to say they didn't want the business. Well, yer going to be on here boyos... At the end of this, I am going to name and shame the fekkers.
I can appreciate that many companies might not have a spray booth big enough to take a camper, but at least they could say.. 'sorry.. can't help', or 'too busy, but thanks for your enquiry... try us in August/September' etc.
I've had a personal recommendation for another company - I'll phone them and see what happens.
If only I'd paid attention in metalwork

If I were to use my school metalwork talents, the whole thing would end up smaller. Maybe single berth!!

got the same campervan for free.
Just as good, because the coachwork has several 'damp spots'. I started tearing out the complete interior to replace the rotten parts of the wooden framework.
The van is mechanically sound and all appliances seem operational (after a bit of DIY)
Do you care to mail me a few interior pics to compare the 'original' bits ?
The CI Autohome version of a CF certainly has some personality... and apparently that goes a long way.

Sure.. can do. Do bear in mind that the CI conversions varied from year to year (and also many different options) so my interior might be completely different from yours.
I've got the opposite problem - a nice damp-free,original interior, but a horribly rusted body. Mechanicals are good though.
However, I have around 20 high-res photos of the interior which I will be more than happy to email to you, but I will need an address. If you send me a private message with your email, I'll forward them on to you.

I can't tell that the body of my van is totally rust-free but by Bedford standards it definitely is one of the better preserved originals.
It also came with some weird options such as an 'airco'(Coleman, I believe).
It works on the principle of water evaporation, and has a space -age Colani design.

Water evaporation gear was very popular in the 1970s.. very environmentally sound but it has the obvious problem that it can't reduce temperatures below ambient.
So if it's 30 degrees outside, 30 degrees is as cold as the fridge or air is going to get !
